Me, Camille Lebrun. I grew up on the other side of the Couesnon and have crossed the bay on foot more times than I can count. I still take the 7:30 am shuttle when I visit, to reach the top before the coaches arrive. I don’t work for the abbey, the tourist office, or any tour operator, and this site has no ties to the Mont’s official websites.
What I write here is exactly what I’d tell someone calling me the day before their visit: what time to arrive, what shoes to wear, which ticket to buy, and which excursion is a bad idea. The full details are in the Mont-Saint-Michel guide.
Why this site exists
Because nearly everything is free at Mont-Saint-Michel, and visitors mostly pay for what they hadn’t planned for. The village is a lived-in community: you can enter freely, without a ticket, 24 h / 24. The shuttle ‘Le Passeur’ between the car park and the ramparts is free. Only the abbey requires a ticket, at the official monument rate, which is higher from 1 April to 30 September than the rest of the year.
What does cost, however, is the car park—charged by the day and pricier in high season—the last-minute augmented reality tablet rental, and the 14-hour coach trip from Paris for just four hours on site.
