What’s paid for and what’s free
The Mont is three distinct things, and the bill only covers one. The village is a lived-in commune: you can enter on foot, free of charge, at any time, even at 6 am when the Grande Rue is empty. The abbey, at the top, is the only paid attraction: a higher rate from 1 April to 30 September, a lower rate from 1 October to 31 March, roughly 350 steps higher. The bay, finally, isn’t something you cross alone: quicksand, mist, and a tide that rises fast. It’s the only thing I’ll happily pay a guide for.
The rest of the expense is almost never what you expected. The ‘Le Passeur’ shuttle between the car park and the ramparts is free. The car park itself is charged per full day, even for three hours on site, and costs more in peak season. I’ve broken this all down, line by line, on the page how much a visit to the Mont costs.

Which one to choose
Three questions decide: how much time you have, how much you want to spend, and where you’re leaving from in the morning.
You’re leaving from Paris and returning the same evening

You’re staying in the area
You then have the luxury of flexible timing. Book the abbey ticket for the very first entry of the morning, and keep the afternoon for the bay, whose departure follows the tide. For the ticket itself, everything is on abbey tickets.

The car park is 2.5 km from the entrance and the shuttle takes about 12 minutes, running every 15 minutes. From the car park to the abbey gate, including stairs, allow 45 minutes to 1 hour. A visit scheduled for 9 am means arriving at the car park by 8 am.
